Kitzsteinhorn: Building begin for Salzburg’s highest lying chair lift

In July 2016 the building of the new Schmiedingerbahn – 8-seater chairlift with heated seating and weather protection- will begin on Kitzsteinhorn. The new lift replaced the Schmiedinger glacier lifts and offers more comfort in the centre of the glacier ski area with more snow-sure slopes. The scheduled opening of Salzburg´s highest chair lift is in November 2016.

In October 2016 the Kaprun Gletscherbahnen realized with the combination lift „Gletscherjet 3+4“ and the restructuring of the central glacier ski area a milestone project. This adaption strategy is now being continued by the company: In July 2016 the building of the Schmiedingerbahn will begin. The modern 8-seater chairlift with heated seating and weather protection offers in particular, families and casual skiers utmost comfort and regeneration breaks between the ski runs. Due to the high altitude between 2.530 and 2.775 meters, the lift lies just under the 3000 meter boundary and therefore Salzburg´s highest lying chair lift.

More open slopes

The new chair lift replaces the Schmiedinger glacier lifts that were open in 1969. In 1974 followed an expansion to a double drag lift and in the 1990ies the lift was then modernized. By converting to an 8-seater chairlift, the previous lift line can now be integrated into the slopes, widening the pistes and offering stunning open views of the Zeller Lake. „The new 8-seater chairlift is a logical continuation of our strive for comfort in a snow secure high lying ski area on Kitzsteinhorn“, says the director of the Gletscherbahnen Kaprun AG, Norbert Karlsböck.

Even more snow guarantee and piste quality

In addition to the new Schmiedingerbahn , the Kapruner Gletscherbahnen continues with for years expansion program of the construction of slopes and snow making facilities. The artificially snowed piste areas have been enlarged by two hectares and through the expansion of the water and pump capacity, a faster production of snow is possible. 9,5 million Euro will be invested in the coming glacier Autumn and Winter season on Kitzsteinhorn. 7 million Euro in the new Schmiedingerbahn and a further 2,5 million Euro in snow and slop quality.
