From October until May, ski busses take skiers and snowboarders from many stops in town to the Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel ski resorts free of charge. Moreover, during winter season in Zell am See-Kaprun, the busses between Kitzsteinhorn/Kaprun ↔ Zell am See can also be used free of charge if a valid Kitzsteinhorn ticket is shown. There are also ski bus routes from/to Niedernsill-Piesendorf and Bruck-Fusch.
Postbus line 660 from the Zell am See train station via Kaprun Center/MK Maiskogelbahn to the Kitzsteinhorn valley station. Single-ride and multi-day tickets available in the bus.

Railjet Direct connection vienna – Zell am See
NEW: With WESTbahn directly to Zell am See–Kaprun
From 14 December 2025, WESTbahn will take guests three times a day from Vienna Westbahnhof via St. Pölten, Linz and Salzburg directly to Zell am See–Kaprun – and back again. Whether a weekend trip, ski holiday or summer getaway, travelling with WESTbahn is comfortable and relaxing.
ICE Großglockner
Direct ICE from Hamburg & Munich
The ICE “Großglockner” operates from 19 December 2025 to 12 April 2026 and from 22 May to 1 November 2026. The route runs from Hamburg via Würzburg, Augsburg and Munich directly to Zell am See–Kaprun. Outbound journeys take place on Fridays or Saturdays, and return trips on Saturdays or Sundays.
Eurocity from Zurich
Daily direct connections with the EuroCity from Zurich ensure a comfortable and stress-free journey to Zell am See–Kaprun. In addition, the panorama coach in First Class features a window extending up into the roof to enjoy the scenery.
Snälltåget from Malmö via Copenhagen
From 19 December 2025 to 14 March 2026, Snälltåget will offer a direct connection from Malmö via Copenhagen, Odense, Kolding and Hamburg to Zell am See–Kaprun. The outbound journey takes place from Friday to Saturday, and the return journey on Saturday evening with arrival in Denmark and Sweden the following day.

ARRIVING BY PLANE
nearby airports
Austria's largest federal state airport is situated in the heart of the country, near the Salzburg city center, approx. 80 km away from the Kitzsteinhorn. Thanks to the good access to public transport and its own autobahn (highway) access point, Salzburg Airport can be reached easily. The airport is also perfect for continuing your journey to Zell am See-Kaprun. There are many shuttle services taking you from Salzburg Airport directly to the Kitzsteinhorn. Short distances, competent and fast check-in as well as a good infrastructure with catering facilities, shops, car rental and more guarantee a pleasant arrival and departure.
Munich Airport is approx. 180 km away from the Kitzsteinhorn. The suburban trains S1 and S8 take visitors quickly from the airport to the Munich Central Station, where trains to Zell am See leave regularly. Once at the Zell am See train station, busses run directly to the Kitzsteinhorn valley station.
