Sustainable Mobility Around Kitzsteinhorn

Aski vacation at Kitzsteinhorn can be a vacation for your car, too. Ideally, your climate-friendly journey begins by train to Zell am See. Once you arrive in Kaprun, sustainable mobility options take you up into the glacier snow with minimal environmental impact.

Step out of your accommodations, take a short walk to Kaprun Center, put on your ski boots at the ski storage facility, shoulder your skis, and head up the mountain. During its operating hours, the 3K K-onnection takes you directly from the town center via Maiskogel to Kitzsteinhorn. And it does so while conserving resources, because all lifts are powered exclusively by renewable electricity from VERBUND’s power plants in Kaprun. Before the 3K K-onnection began operating, many winter sports enthusiasts still drove up into the Kaprun Valley. Today, the car can stay in one of the free parking lots at Kaprun Center while you head straight from there into the glacier ski area. During its operating hours, the 3K K-onnection can eliminate up to 1.5 million kilometers of private vehicle travel.

After a day of skiing at Kitzsteinhorn or Maiskogel, you can ski right back into the town center, return your skis and ski boots to the ski storage facility at Kaprun Center, and take a leisurely walk back to your accommodations. Anyone with tired calves can simply hop on village bus line D, Kaprun’s K line, or bus line 660. From the start of ski operations at Kitzsteinhorn through early May, these routes are free for all passengers within Kaprun. With a valid ski pass, line 660 is also free between Zell am See, Kaprun, and Kitzsteinhorn. Free ski bus connections are also available from Niedernsill and Piesendorf, as well as Bruck and Fusch, from Christmas through mid-April. During the same period, the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn can also be used free of charge for arrival and departure with a valid ski pass.
