Nature & panorama bliss at the Hohe Tauern National Park border
Experiencing high-alpine nature up close. Being at eye level with 3,000ers without having to climb a mountain. Escaping the burning summer heat and cooling off in the glacier snow. This summer, the Kitzsteinhorn in the Zell am See-Kaprun region offers a top-class retreat, with a rich variety of nature activities for day trippers, hikers, bikers and families.

For day trippers

    Salzburg’s highest-situated attraction at 3,029 m
The high-alpine adventure world is open year-round and directly borders the Hohe Tauern National Park border, Alps’ largest nature reserve. Reaching TOP OF SALZBURG requires no mountaineering skills whatsoever, for cable cars bring everyone comfortably from the valley all the way up. That makes TOP OF SALZBURG the highest point in the Salzburg province to be reachable via cable cars. Two spectacular panoramic platforms, Austria’s highest-situated movie theater “Cinema 3000” and the “National Park Gallery” info tunnel offer breathtaking views of and fascinating insights into the high-alpine mountain world. TOP TIP › daily guided tours with National Park rangers
Sliding fun & cooling in the glacier snow

Sliding in the snow, snowball fights and building snowmen in July and August? In the ICE ARENA on the glacier plateau at 3,000 meters, this dream becomes reality, for glacier snow lays here in summer, too, providing fun and a place to cool off. Slides can be borrowed on site. After the slide, the moving carpet brings young and old back up to the starting point. The ICE ARENA Snack Bar at the foot of the slope offers snacks and drinks as well as loungers on a snow beach to sunbathe and relax.

    Trails & tours
The Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel have long enjoyed great popularity among bikers. From the highest access point at 2,450 meters, trails and routes lead all the way down to the Kaprun town center. And where a path leads down, there is also one that leads up – whether for particularly ambitious ones with pure muscle power, with the aid of an e-motor, or sectionally combined with panoramic cable car rides, where the bike is always allowed in the gondola free of charge. Either way, bikers experience picturesque landscapes of various vegetation zones from the valley all the way up to high-alpine terrain in this unique nature area at the Hohe Tauern National Park border.
Comfortable & spectacular: panoramic cable car rides
The seamless cable car network allows guests to comfortably float to all access points of hiking tours, MTB trails and bike routes. The bikes join their bikers free of charge in the gondolas that give spectacular panoramic views. The 12-km-long K-ONNECTION is the longest cable car route in the Eastern Alps and with an elevation gain of 2,261 meters it also conquers the most vertical meters in that same area. It starts in the Kaprun town center at 768 meters and ends at Salzburg's highest-situated attraction TOP OF SALZBURG at 3,029 meters.
