National Park Ranger Tour
On an exciting discovery tour through four climate zones from the village of Kaprun uphill to TOP OF SALZBURG at over 3,000 metres above sea level and into the world of glaciers accompanied by a National Park Ranger. How is glacier ice formed, where do golden eagles and bearded vultures live, what survival strategies do edelweiss and saxifrage develop – you will find out all this and much more on your journey using four cable cars uphill to 3,000 metres and on easy hiking tours. One of the tour’s highlights is the panoramic ride with the new 3K K-onnection from Maiskogel to the Kitzsteinhorn. At the end a visit of the Gipfelwelt 3000 including Nationalpark Gallery awaits you.

Top of Salzburg
To the climate of Spitzbergen in just 3.5 hours
The Kitzsteinhorn offers spectacular views to the Hohe Tauern National Park - with 1,856 square kilometres the largest nature reserve in the Alps. Starting from the first climate zone in the valley, the warm and moderate climate with lush green vegetation and streams, we travel leisurely uphill on the Kitzsteinhorn cable cars across the wintry cold climate with coniferous forests to the Tundra climate. In this treeless region at the Langwiedboden in 1,900 m above sea level, we walk to a small meandering brook bed where we will find alpine roses and gentian and, if we are lucky, we may even be able to watch marmots. At the next stop, in the rocky wasteland around the Alpincenter in 2,500 m above sea level, we hike to a special viewpoint. Together we explore the flora and fauna at the border to the eternal ice. The journey continues uphill to the Arctic climate in 3,029 m. We enjoy the view to the glaciated three thousand metres high mountains and to natural valleys from the Top of Salzburg panorama platform. If we are lucky, we may even see eagles and vultures in the sky above the 3,203 metres high peak of the Kitzsteinhorn. If you were to take this journey through four climate zones starting from Kaprun, then you would have to travel to Spitzbergen - a distance of 3,445 kilometres as the crow flies.“
