Employee Housing for the Kitzsteinhorn Team
Employees in Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel’s restaurant and lift operations work hard to give guests memorable experiences and truly relaxing time away. Yet the well-being of the team is just as important to Gletscherbahnen Kaprun as the comfort of its visitors. Kitz Camp, which opened in 2023, provides a temporary home for international seasonal employees who do not have their own housing in the region.
Drop Your Bags and Feel at Home
The modern building was completed in fall 2023 and thoughtfully integrated into the small residential neighborhood on Häuslhofstraße. On one side of its 14 apartments, fields stretch toward Kaprun Castle; on the other, residents look directly toward their majestic workplace: Kitzsteinhorn. Robert was one of the first residents of Kitz Camp and is delighted with his new home.
“The 28-square-meter apartment is cozy and fully equipped with a bed, shower, toilet, kitchen, wall unit, and dining table. When I arrived, all I had to do was drop my bags and feel at home. Even dishes, cookware, and bedding were provided,” says the member of the Gletschermühle service team as he quickly makes himself a coffee in the small kitchen before work and uses the complimentary Wi-Fi to read messages from his family in Croatia.
A few minutes later, Robert steps outside in his work clothes. He walks the short distance into the town center, where he takes the local bus to the cable car and continues up to his workplace at Restaurant Gletschermühle, 2,450 meters above sea level. By 5 p.m., he will be back within his own four walls and, as he reveals, “Maybe I’ll take a walk through the Kaprun Moor, right outside my door.”
Leading the Way in Employee Housing
Kitz Camp is the newest of the employee housing developments. “The first was built back in 2016,” recalls Fritz Hüttner, then Deputy Head of Restaurant Operations and HR Manager for Kitzsteinhorn’s restaurants.
“For a long time, it had been important to me to create housing specifically for seasonal employees who do not come from the region. In 2016, the time had finally come, and we were able to hand the first employees the keys to their apartments at Team Camp near Tauern SPA. At the time, this put us at the forefront of employee housing. Today, our housing developments allow us to offer seasonal employees comfortable, modern apartments. Over the years, seasonal positions often turn into year-round jobs. At that point, however, employees generally find their own housing in the region.”
All the employee residences are centrally located, allowing employees to complete most everyday trips on foot. For longer distances, they may also use the ski bus and bus line 660 to Zell am See free of charge in their personal time.
Simply arrive, drop your bags, and feel at home. After work, it is wonderful to return to your own temporary home.
A Deciding Factor When Choosing a Job
Fritz Hüttner understands the value of well-rested and satisfied employees. He explains:
“We therefore placed great importance on furnishing and equipping the apartments to a high standard. The ground-floor units have their own gardens, while all apartments on the upper floors have balconies. Anyone returning from a night shift can use the electric shutters to bring nighttime darkness back into the apartment and get a restful sleep.”
The investment in employee housing is well worth it, according to the former HR manager:
“Many employees now join our team through recommendations from colleagues. Alongside the position itself and the pay, good housing is one of the most persuasive factors. Employees who feel comfortable and content in their own private space bring that same sense of satisfaction to the workplace.”
At the end of the season, Robert simply packs his suitcase and closes the door behind him. He knows that when he returns for another season, a comfortable temporary home will once again be waiting for him in the employee housing provided by Kitzsteinhorn.
