Gletschermühle Restaurant
Following extensive remodeling and major renovations of the Alpincenter in 2023, the quality initiative for Kitzsteinhorn's gastronomy entered its next phase the very next year. In summer 2024, work on the new Gletschermühle Restaurant began with the completion of the basement level. The surface was then restored to its original condition to ensure uninterrupted operations during the 2024/25 fall and winter season. During the summer and fall of 2025, the new building was completed.
History & Values
The Gletschermühle was opened in 1994 as a full-service restaurant and stood for refined dining culture with hearty, down-to-earth dishes in an alpine setting. The name was meant to be a reflection of its concept – inspired by the surrounding nature, the building’s architecture has always echoed the forms of a real glacial mill.
Freshness and regionality have always been top priorities. Products such as cheese, meat, bread, and eggs are sourced from local producers. It's no coincidence that the Gletschermühle Restaurant carries the AMA GOURMET REGION Quality Seal – it guarantees the regional origin and high quality of the ingredients, as well as short transport routes and fresh preparation.
A Modern Take on Alpine Style
The new Gletschermühle blends harmoniously into the high-alpine landscape at 2,450 meters – a key focus during the planning phase. Just as much attention was given to creating a modern architectural style. The ground floor features the main dining area as well as a bar with a cozy fireplace lounge. A gently curved staircase leads to the Kitzsteinhorn Lounge on the upper floor, where up to 30 guests can enjoy exclusive service and breathtaking views of the Kitzsteinhorn summit.
Both the exterior and interior feature distinctive architectural elements that traditionally echo the natural form of a glacial mill. The lighting concept – emphasizing indirect and warm as well as natural light through generous panoramic windows – combined with tasteful interior design, creates a welcoming atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment.
