Freedom at 3.000 metres on the Kitzsteinhorn

Wide glacial slopes, fabulous high alpine views and a great variety of winter sports: already in October at 3.000 meters, skiers and snowboarders enjoy open sunny pistes on the Kitzsteinhorn. It is the only glacial skiing area in Land Salzburg and guarantees snow from October until early Summer. Visitors to the „Gipfelwelt 3000“ experience fascinating high alpine and glacier worlds at close range. They can look over Austria´s highest peaks from the Panorama-Platform „Top of Salzburg“ (3.029 meters), the highest viewing point in Land Salzburg. It seems that untouched glaciers and 3.000m peaks are endless in the neighbouring Hohe Tauern National Park. From Autumn  2015, the new state of the art „Gletscherjet 3 and 4“ cable cars will make the high skiing area even more attractive.

Wide glacial slopes, Black Mamba, snowparks and freeride routes
Salzburg´s highest skiing area has perfect Winter sport conditions. The Kitzsteinhorn sets trends for all target groups with its innovative offers. Action-lovers fly down the „Black Mamba“ piste – a challenge even for professionals with its incline of 63%! Artistic riders practice their tricks and jumps in the three snowparks and in Austria´s biggest superpipe. There are two different routes on the Kitzsteinhorn for ski touring. The Skyline-Bar in the Alpincenter, with its special cuisine for endurance athletes, has become their meeting place. The Kitzsteinhorn is a trailblazer for off-piste freeriders and safety comes first on all five freeride routes: the „Freeride Info Bases“ and the „Info Points“, at the entrance to deep snow slopes, clarify safety regulations and the current avalanche situation. Freeriders can practice with their avalanche transceivers in an avalanche search and find area.  Workshops for beginners and advanced riders are held in cooperation with two ski schools on „Freeride Monday“.

Family friendly offers, Funline and Snowpark for cool kids
Adventurous kids are in their element: in „Easy Park“  young snowboarders and freeskiers can practice on smaller obstacles before trying bigger ones. From Autumn 2015, the Kitzsteinhorn comes alive for everyone. Beginners and children can, for example, test their own centrifugal force in the Funline. The Kitzsteinhorn also has a new practice area especially for beginners and families at snow-sure 2.600 meters above sea level. Children friendly offers make a family trip up to the Kitzsteinhorn affordable. Children and youths under 19 years old only pay €10,- for a day´s ski ticket on Saturdays with the „Power of Zehn“.

Enjoy floating over the glacier with the new Gletscherjets 3 and 4
The trip up to the glacier, from Autumn 2015 with the new cable cars „Gletscherjet 3 and 4“, will be a wonderful experience: by floating 60 meters above the glacial slopes, winter athletes can enjoy an impressive panorama of the skiing area and the untouched alpine world of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The view reaches over wide glacial slopes and pistes down to the Pinzgau valleys and the shores of the Zell am See lake. Due to the transport capacity of the lifts, ca. 2.800 guests per hour, the glacier can be reached with much more comfort and speed. The lifts reach upwards from the Alpincenter, at 2.450 meters, in two stages: the  Gletscherjet 3 is first with a combination of 10-person cabins and an 8-seater chairlift running up to the Middle Station. The Gletscherjet 4 gondola runs from there up to the top station.

Even more attractive skiing area: larger piste surfaces and a new practice area.
Winter sport athletes can enjoy even more advantages with the 2015/16 season: drag lifts are newly positioned to extend and widen the pistes. A snow-sure practice terrain has been prepared for beginners and children at an altitude of 2.650 meters. The wide, gently sloping piste is easily accessible from the Alpincenter with the Gletscherjet 3 and the new Schneehasen (Snow Bunny) lift. Therefore, beginners can also begin their ski season in Autumn.

50 years of pioneering spirit: Austria´s first glacial skiing area celebrates its anniversary
The Kitzsteinhorn takes yet another step forward with its new innovations in Winter 2015/16. In 1965, Austria´s first glacial skiing area was opened on the Kitzsteinhorn with a lot of pioneering spirit. In 1968, the first drag lift was constructed on a flowing glacier, in 1982 the first live panorama camera in a skiing area was installed and, in recent years, terrain for freestylers has become professional. In 2015, 50 years after the opening of its skiing area, the Kitzsteinhorn is starting its new level with the motto „The Power of Change.“

Ten year anniversary of the igloo landscape: as well as the ICE CAMP presented by Audi quattro
Fifty years Kitzsteinhorn glacier also celebrates another anniversary – it is ten years since the „ICE CAMP“ was constructed near the Alpincenter. 60 tons of ice and three connected 12m wide igloos were built within six weeks!! The ICE CAMP, presented by Audi quattro and open from the beginning of January to mid April, has always been a very popular meeting spot in the middle of the skiing area. Guests enjoy a drink at the Ice Bar with soft music or relax on the sun terrace with its amazing views.

From WOW Glacier Love to the Hochgenuss (utmost enjoyment):  Winter events 2015/16
Inseparable from the Kitzsteinhorn are its many varied events, stretching over the whole winter season. They begin with the „WOW Glacier Love“ festival. For the second time, from 6th to 8th November 2015, the town centre of Kaprun and the glacier are transformed into a party stronghold featuring great DJs and live acts. Touring skiers start the season together with the „Kitzsteinhorn Schneekönig“ competition on the 28th November 2015. In March 2016, freeride professionals compete in the „X OVER RIDE“ for their qualification into the Freeride World Tour. Please note the 11th October 2015 for culinary enjoyment: the gastronomic event „Hochgenuss“ comes around twice a year and guests are spoilt by well-known and awarded cooks in the Gipfelrestaurant at 3.029 meters.
