WINTER 2025/26

Ski & Snow Bliss from Fall to Early Summer
Few ski areas are as versatile as Kitzsteinhorn and its surroundings in the Zell am See-Kaprun region. At the high-alpine Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski resort, winter sports enthusiasts enjoy an extra-long ski season from fall to early summer, thanks to its snow-sure altitude and top-notch snow management. The Maiskogel ski area, close to the town of Kaprun, is especially popular with families and leisure skiers. Beyond skiing and snowboarding, both Kaprun mountains offer unique attractions and adventure experiences, providing unmatched natural beauty and panoramic views on the edge of Hohe Tauern National Park.

Winter Sports

  • K-ONNECTIONSki-in Ski-out
  • During peak season, the 12-km-long K-ONNECTION lift axis links Kaprun’s town center, via the family-friendly Maiskogel, directly to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski resort. For winter sports enthusiasts, this means ski-in, ski-out access from 768 to 3,029 meters.
  • Skiing & Snowboarding
Perfectly groomed natural snow slopes on wide glacier terrain against a spectacular high-alpine backdrop make skiing and snowboarding at the Kitzsteinhorn a truly special experience. Across a total of 41 km of slopes, skiers can choose from blue, red, and black runs. Further down, families and leisure skiers especially appreciate the gentle slopes and the proximity of the Maiskogel to the town. In Kaprun’s town center, beginners take their first turns on the Lechnerberg.
  • Freeriding
The Kitzsteinhorn is one of Austria’s most popular freeride spots and is world-renowned within the scene: the legendary X OVER RIDE, a Freeride World Tour Challenger event, has been held for years on the Lakarschneid competition face.
Freeriders can carve their lines in the finest powder along five varied routes close to the lifts. The Freeride INFO BASE at the Alpincenter provides an overview of all freeride routes, guidelines for riding in open terrain, an avalanche transceiver (LVS) checkpoint, and the current avalanche warning level. At the start of each route, an INFO POINT offers details on the slope’s conditions and safety tips for off-piste riding.
  • Snowparks
The snowparks at Kitzsteinhorn are world-class, offering freestyle enthusiasts a variety of setups. Already in the fall, riders can tackle the first obstacles in the Glacier Park on glacier plateau at 2,900 m. In December, the Easy Park opens at 2,600 m. From February to April, Central Park and South Central Park offer numerous features for freestylers to enjoy.
  • Superpipe
In November, the top-shaped superpipe in the Sonnenkarbahn area at Kitzsteinhorn, crafted by Olympic shaper Alli Zehetner and his team, draws the world’s elite halfpipe riders to the glacier snow. During the annual Pipe Training Weeks, legendary names from the international freestyle scene use the massive halfpipe, with walls up to 6.5 meters high, to prepare for competitions.
  • Ski Touring
For ski tourers, Kitzsteinhorn offers two marked ascent routes starting from Langwied: On the Schneekönigin route, recreational ski tourers climb 474 meters up to the Alpincenter at 2,450 m. The Eisbrecher route runs parallel to the Schneekönigin up to this point and then continues to the top station of the Maurerlift at 2,875 m – ambitious tourers cover a total of 899 meters of elevation here. The route on Maiskogel starts at the Maiskogel parking lot and leads either to the base station of the 3K K-onnection at 1,570 m or to the top station of the Almbahn at 1,733 m.
  • Winter Hiking
At Kitzsteinhorn, the starting points for stunning winter hiking trails await at Langwied (1,976 m), the Alpincenter (2,450 m), and the Gletscherjet 4 top station (2,926 m). From Langwied and the Gletscherjet 4 top station, the trails lead to scenic viewpoints, while from the Alpincenter they lead to the ICE CAMP presented by Audi.
  • Themed Runs & Challenges
Black Mamba ▸ For those who like it steep: With a gradient of up to 63%, Black Mamba is the blackest run at Kitzsteinhorn.
Eagle Line ▸ Perfect for aspiring freestylers looking to tackle a variety of terrain: This course is packed with waves, banked turns, and humps with changing obstacles. Even experienced riders will have a blast soaring through the air and feeling the G-forces in the steep turns.
