Hiking area at the border to the Hohe Tauern National Park

High alpine mountain experience and easy circular hiking routes

The Kitzsteinhorn boasts a diverse hiking area like hardly any other directly at the border to the Hohe National Park. Sometimes on gently ascending trails across lush green ground with a wealth of colourful flowers, and at times high alpine rock landscapes with karstic climbs. The cable cars take you to the starting points of the hiking routes in comfort. Climb your first 3.000 metres high mountain on a guided tour or go on an adventurous expedition through the climate zones of the Kitzsteinhorn accompanied by a National Park Ranger.

Hiking trails 


LANGWIED: easy hiking area in approx. 2.000 metres above sea level

This short circular route starts at the Häuslalm and leads past a hilly landscape covered in alpine roses, along lush green alpine meadows with babbling brooks and back to the starting point at Langwied.

  • Difficulty: intermediate
  • Altitude metres: 15
  • Length: 580 m (circular route)

 

This easy circular hiking route starts at the Häuslalm and leads through hilly terrain, across lush alpine rose pastures past the ruins of an old herdsman hut and along the Grubbach stream through a beautiful natural landscape and back to the starting point.

  • Altitude metres: 41
  • Length: 1.100 m

The wide circular route starts at the Häuslalm and leads past sites with beautiful views to the Zell Basin to the ruins of an old herdsman hut. The trail is especially suitable for families with small children and there are places for a rest along the route.

ALPINCENTER: high alpine area in approx. 2.500 metres above sea level

Leisurely, eventful circular hiking route from the Alpincenter to the glacial moraine with fantastic vistas to the glacier, the glacier lake and into the valley.

  • Difficulty: intermediate
  • Duration: 30 min.

The route leads from the Alpincenter to the Gletscherblick with view across the moraine to the emerald green glacier lake and past glacier polishes and streams as well as beautiful viewpoints back to the Alpincenter.

  • Duration: 60 min.

Starting from the Alpincenter, the tour leads to interesting geological rock formations at the base of the Tristinger and the Rettenwand. Continuing from the Graswand cross, the route leads across the Gletscherblick panorama trail back to the Alpincenter.

  • Duration: 1h 15 min.

This high alpine hiking tour starts at the Alpincenter and leads across an impressive high route with a wide range of alpine flora and unique panoramic views to the Maiskogel. From there it's back to Kaprun either conveniently by cable car (MK Maiskogelbahn) or on foot.

  • Difficulty: intermediate
  • Duration: 4 h to the MK Maiskogelbahn mountain station / 6 h to Kaprun
  • Altitude metres: 350

5a To the Langwied

Alexander-Enzinger-path in a shorter version

One follows the high path (5) from the Alpincenter to the junction with the Wanderweg 5a, descent to Langwied and then ride down to the Kitzsteinhorn valley station with the cable car.

  • Duration: 2 hours

From the "Top of Salzburg“ panorama platform in 3.029 m, the tour leads on a steep trail uphill to the summit in 3.203 m above sea level.

ATTENTION: High alpine path – Surefootedness, no fear of heights and fitness are required.

Tip: A guided "My first 3.000 metres high mountain" tour is available every Wednesday (June – September).

Mountain bike transportation to the Alpincenter free of charge
Transportation with the Langwiedbahn (chairlift) not possible

Dogs are transported (EUR 6.50 day ticket / EUR 70.00 annual pass). Dogs must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle. Muzzles can be borrowed from the cash desks at the valley stations and the InfoService in the Alpincenter if a deposit is left.

KeyCard deposit EUR 2.00. Return of undamaged KeyCards at all ticket offices.
